On 23 May 2015, Alabama Bass Federation held their 2015 Junior / High School State Championship Tournament on Lay Lake. The tournament participates launched out of Beeswax Park, Columbiana, AL. Junior and or High School Anglers of Ft Payne, Indian Springs and Saraland filled the field of anglers. Participate number were down but those that attended were there to claim the top honor of the Junior and or High School Divisions.
Saraland Spartans Fishing Team of Justin Kyle and Luke Andress of Saraland Spartan Fishing Team managed to secure the title of the State High School Champions with a weight if 7.47. Second place was the team of Andrej Richardson and Jacob Drake of Indian Springs High School with a weight of 7.00. Third place team of Gavin Camp and Austin Duncan of Ft Payne Wildcats Fishing Team had 2.01. As winners of the High School Division, Kyle and Luke may be eligible for travel assistance to the TBF SAF 2016 Alabama State Championship Tournament.
Connor Schrader of Ft Payne Wildcats Fishing Club was crowned as the 2015 Junior State Champion with a weight of .091. Of the Junior Anglers that participated Conner was the only one that presented a fish at the scales. Connor will advance on to the TBF Junior World Championship Tournament scheduled for August 20-22, 2015, Lake Hamilton, Hot Springs AK and will fish for scholarship funds. Connor will be competing against the Southern Divisional Junior Anglers.
Our special thanks go out to the boat captains that have provided their time and a means for these young anglers to participate in these events. Also thanks to the parents of these young anglers for their support. The Junior / High School anglers of today will be the leaders of our sport in the future.
